A denture is a removable replacement for teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types– partial and complete. Complete dentures are used when all teeth New Look Dental are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Complete dentures are typically made after the teeth have been removed and the mouth is completely healed. These dentures are usually ready to be placed eight to twelve weeks after the teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures can also be used. Immediate dentures are made before all of the teeth are removed and can be placed as soon as the teeth come out, without any period of healing in between.

New Look Dental Partial dentures are used for when only some teeth are missing. Partial dentures are also removable and usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base. This base is attached to a metal framework that is used to hold the dentures in place. Partial dentures not only serve to replace missing teeth, but also keep the remaining natural teeth in their proper place.

The process of getting dentures is relatively easy and usually takes about three to six weeks, over the course of several appointments. After a consultation, your dentist will determine which type of denture is best for you. Usually once the type of denture is decided, a series of impressions will be made of your jaw. Measurements of how your jaws relate to one another and how much space is between them will also be take. Models, wax forms and/or plastic patterns will then be created in the exact shape and form of your denture. This model will be fitted in your mouth several times to decide if it is a correct fit. Finally, the denture will be cast and adjustments made as necessary.

Dentures not only serve as a cosmetic tool to enhance your smile, but also improve chewing, speech and digestion. If you’re concerned about loss of teeth, a plan can be made for you to regain the beautiful smile you have lost!
